Google acquires Zingku.

In News, google on September 28, 2007 at 10:27 am

zingku.jpgGoogle has entered an agreement to acquire “certain assets and technology” from mobile platform operator Zingku.

According to Zingku:

Our service is designed from the mobile phone, outward, allowing you to create and exchange things of interest ranging from invitations to “mobile flyers” with friends in a trusted manner. On the mobile phone, Zingku uses standard text messaging and picture messaging features that come with every phone. On the web, our service uses your standard web browser and instant messenger. There is nothing to install.”

We don’t have a lot of information about the company (including location; there are no details on their site) although a Google search would suggest that the company may have been funded by Flagship Ventures. If we find any more details we’ll update the post. The acquisition price was not disclosed.

Microsoft to acquire a stake in Facebook.

In Money, News on September 26, 2007 at 9:28 am

Microsoft reportedly is negotiating to acquire a minority stake in social networking service Facebook. The Wall Street Journal reports Microsoft’s proposals could value Facebook at $10 billion or higher–Microsoft is seeking to purchase a stake of up to 5 percent, at a cost between $300 million to $500 million, said sources close to the talks.

But Microsoft is not the only potential suitor: The WSJ says Google also is interested in acquiring a Facebook stake. Microsoft is said to be exploring a relationship with Facebook to help shift the balance of new-media platform power away from Google–Facebook, which counts more than 40 million users and adds more than 200,000 new subscribers each day, anticipates 2007 profits of $30 million on revenue of $150 million. Facebook reportedly is seeking to generate as much as $500 million in cash for acquisitions of its own. Sources add the company is also developing its own ad platform, enabling marketers to target users via personalized ads. Representatives for Microsoft, Facebook and Google all declined comment.

Excel 2007 Multiplication Bug

In Gadget on September 25, 2007 at 9:55 am

tibbar66 writes with news of a serious multiplication bug in Excel 2007, which has been reported to the company. The example first that came to light is =850*77.1 — which gives a result of 100,000 instead of the correct 65,535. It seems that any formula that should evaluate to 65,535 will act strangely. One poster in the forum noted these behaviors: “Suppose the formula is in A1. =A1+1 returns 100,001, which appears to show the formula is in fact 100,000… =A1*2 returns 131,070, as if A1 had 65,535 (which it should have been). =A1*1 keeps it at 100,000. =A1-1 returns 65,534. =A1/1 is still 100,000. =A1/2 returns 32767.5.”Read more of this story

In Mobile Softwares, News, Smartphone, software on September 25, 2007 at 8:45 am

The application is completely mobile. No desktop with Skype is necessary. All you need is a mobile device with Internet connection and SkypeOut credits to make/receive calls. IM+ for Skype is network independent, working in GSM, 3G and CDMA and doesn?t require WiFi.

IM+ Skype

IM+ Skype Call Skype users from any Symbian S60 v3 mobile. With IM+ for Skype you can talk with other Skype users all over the world. Enjoy high quality of voice communication – clear sound, no delays even for long-distance calls!Make cost-effective calls to any destination. IM+ for Skype is based on SkypeOut service that allows users to make and receive calls for extremely low fees.

See who is online and chat with Skype users. Text messaging is cost effective way to say something instead of sending an SMS.

One Time Fee, all updates included. One time fee for the application, no monthly subscription.
By purchasing IM+ for Skype users are entitled to all products upgrades.

Saving with IM+: Cost effective mobile telephony.

See how you can save:

§ Example 1: Call from UK Vodafone phone to PC with Skype.

Let?s say Mary is on IM+ for Skype, lives in UK and her carrier is Vodafone. Mary wants to call her friend who has Skype on her PC. SkypeOut rate will be equal to destination rate for calling to UK Vodafone of €0.205 per minute plus the connection fee rate (€ 0.039).

§ Example 2: Call from UK Vodafone phone to landline in USA.

Let?s say Mary is on IM+ for Skype, lives in UK and her carrier is Vodafone. Mary wants to call her college friend who lives in USA, Florida to her phone number. To calculate the SkypeOut rate, just add the destination rate for calling to to UK Vodafone (€0.205) and the destination rate to call to USA (€0.017). So the rate to call from USA to UK via IM+ for Skype is €0.222 per minute plus the double connection fee rate (€0.078).

You can save even more by using ANY landline number instead of mobile!

SkypeOut tariffs to landlines and mobiles are different and in most cases calling to mobile is much more expensive than calling to landlines. You can enter any landline number (it can be the phone number of a friend you came to visit, or even a phone number of a local restaurant) in the Call Back field in IM+ and the call will be forwarded to the number you indicate.

§ Example 3: Call from UK Vodafone phone to landline in USA with Call Back to landline.

Let?s say Mary is on IM+ for Skype, lives in UK and her carrier is Vodafone. Mary wants to call her college friend who lives in USA, Florida to her phone number. To make the most economy call Mary enters the landline UK number of her Mother in the Call Back field. Now the rate will include the destination rate for calling to to UK landline (€ 0.017) and the destination rate to call to USA (€ 0.017). So the rate to call from USA to UK via IM+ is € 0.034 per minute plus the double connection fee rate ( €0.078).

System Requirements:

  • any Symbian S60v3 mobile device connected to Internet;
  • SkypeOut credits for voice communications.

SkypeOut is your personal account where you can add Skype credit to make and receive calls in IM+ for Skype. Skype credit is necessary for any incoming or outgoing calls. You can get SkypeOut on the official Skype website.

iPhone transforms AT&T network

In apple, iphone on September 25, 2007 at 7:44 am

The iPhone has certainly had an impact on customer’s wallets, on Apple’s Mac OS release schedule and on competitors like Nokia and Motorola. Now, it seems that the device has also had an impact on AT&T’s cellular network. AT&T says that network upgrades go on all the time, but 20,000 new radios seems like a significant change for a single new device. The upgrades are having an impact beyond the iPhone, though–customer churn is low, and customer satisfaction is high. With results like these, the iPhone could prove important to AT&T for a long time to come.

    Xerox aims to challenge HP

In Gadget on September 24, 2007 at 9:11 am

Xerox have introduced five printers, including the Phaser 8860, which features new solid-ink technology, saying the system puts the cost of color pages on par with that of black-and-white.

Solid ink uses wax ink sticks rather than the cartridges of powdered toner found in laser printers. The process works like that of a high-end offset press to create richer colors, the company says, and has significantly fewer disposable parts, which leads to lower maintenance costs.

“If you compare HP color toner to what our inks will be, we will be one-fifth the price. We think it’s going to help us grow our market share and attract a lot of customers who maybe don’t consider Xerox today,” said Jim Rise, a Xerox vice president.

Experts say color documents are seen as more effective in communications, but the cost of buying new color printers, supplies and service contracts has been a barrier to adoption.

    Google introduces Gadget Ads

In Gadget, google on September 21, 2007 at 7:32 am

Google officially launched Google Gadgets as an ad unit tonight after about three months of pilot testing. Google’s AdWords platform now supports Google Gadget content in addition to existing text, image, and video offerings. The gadget ads feature an entirely new widget analytics platform for tracking gadget success and interaction, an open caching proxy hosted by Google’s geo-distributed servers, and the introduction of YouTube as a video hosting and transcoding platform free from any Google branding. I previously covered Google’s upcoming advertising widgets in early May.

Advertisers can create Google Gadget content in any size supported by AdWords images. In the example shown above Intel combined a Flash game with tabs displaying images and text with more information on the Intel Centrino Duo mobile processor. Each gadget interaction is recorded according to a set list of actions such as mouse over, tab views, entering a ZIP code, subscribing to a web feed, or initiating audio or visual playback. External links such as a visit to an external website pass through Google trackers for CPC billing.

Dubai World is chipping in for a stake in Las Vegas’

In Money, dubai on September 21, 2007 at 7:09 am

Dubai World is chipping in for a stake in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand for $5bn. Making Dubai the proud owner of 9.5% share in one of the largest hotels on the strip.

Someone told me that its impossible for a an Arab/Muslim city to invest in a gambling operation and most likely its wrong. But the story was also on CNN, so most likely its true. I am not worried about Arab’s reaction to it, but more towards American one.

Can’t wait to see Jon Stuart’s thoughts on it tomorrow night; he is in Iraq at the moment by the way.

I’ll be very honest with you, I don’t care about this whole arab investing in gambling business. I spent a whole week in Vegas last summer and I stayed in MGM. I didn’t hit the tables, instead I spent a small fortune on shows like BlueMan show, KA and others. So, there are lots of things to do in Vegas other than to gamble.

I am with this move and if they can buy 100% of MGM, I am down with it.

Also, the place is full of themed venues such as NewYork NewYork, Luxor, Paris and Aladdin (now known as Planet Hollywood).

The move is part of the network equipment maker’s broader cost reductions plan, which includes transferring more R&D to partners and focusing development more on emerging growth markets like China and India.

“Nokia and Siemens, the parent companies of Nokia Siemens Networks, have successfully partnered with Devoteam Group over recent years,” said Mika Vehviläinen, Chief Operating Officer of Nokia Siemens Networks.

“This agreement is good for Devoteam Group and for the employees of Nokia Siemens Networks. It gives Nokia Siemens Networks additional flexibility and transfers people to a strong partner where their competencies will be a natural fit.”

    4 minute crosstrainer

Just 4 minutes use will be the equivalent of 45 minutes on a conventional treadmill. This is what US based company Range of Motion is claiming for its ROM machine. The 4-minute CrossTrainer is being claimed by the compnay to burn 465 calories by exercising 55% of the body’s muscles. The ROM involves 12 times as many muscle cells as does walking or running. Out of shape and weak people can get to very high oxygen consumption rates with the ROM because so very much more muscle cells are involved in oxygen metabolism while using the ROM. The extremely time efficient 4-minute CrossTrainer asks for a mere £7,800 ($15,000). After all, 4 minutes a day is not a bad idea

mobile handset industry future market expansion forecast to grow only 5.6% CAGR from 2007 until 2012

In Best mobiles on September 19, 2007 at 9:10 am

Acoording to informa telecom The mobile handset industry is the largest consumer electronics market in the world, with almost one billion mobile handsets sold during 2006. After a period of strong annual growth until 2006, this is now slowing with future market expansion forecast to grow only 5.6% CAGR from 2007 until 2012. The market continues to be dominated by Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG, who together account for over 80% of device shipments. Their success is largely a result of their performance on a number of criteria which include market segmentation, R&D and cost control. As market growth slows and competition increases still further, these factors will become more important. However, reducing ASPs (Average Selling Price) and convergence are obliging device vendors to review their businesses.

ASP, the mean price at which a vendor sells its handsets, is often used as an indicator of vendor performance. However, as it is possible to be extremely profitable with a low ASP, or to be less profitable at a higher ASP, this indicator should not be taken in isolation. When the ASP of different device vendors is compared, it can reveal a general indication of the market tiers where these companies are most active. Thus it is possible to see the strength of Nokia’s performance in the lower device tiers, while Sony Ericsson sells the majority of its handsets at relatively high prices.

Is your BlackBerry Losing Text Messages or Call Logs?

In blackberry on September 19, 2007 at 9:03 am

Are you having issues with your text messages vanishing without deleting them? Or maybe you notice your call log is suddenly empty? Both of these are symptoms of a full memory.

What can you do to avoid this? Clear out as much as you can from your BlackBerry.

Move pictures, ringtones, music, and videos to your microSD card if you have one. You can even set your camera to save pictures there by default.

Delete programs you do not use. I often download a free trial or try out freeware that I discover I don’t need or like. I often forget about these programs which are taking up my memory. Make sure to remove them either using Desktop Manager’s Application Loader or under Options, Advanced Options, Applications.

Keep your log clear. The BlackBerry keeps a log for trouble shooting. Just hold down the alt key and type lglg from the homescreen. Once the log comes up go into the menu and select clear. Make sure to close the log when you are done.

See what programs are open. This is also a great help on the battery. From the home screen hold the alt key and press the back button. You will get a banner of programs that are running. There will be some BlackBerry applications that are always running, such as phone, messages, and BlackBerry Messenger.

Clean out old e-mails, text messages, and call logs you don’t need. I often accidentally save an e-mail or a text. I try to check my saved messages regularly and get rid of what I don’t need, such as my flight info from a trip I took three months ago.

Check your themes. Do you have lots of themes installed on your BlackBerry? They take up memory. You may want to delete them in Options, Advanced Options, Applications.

Remove any media you are no longer using, such as old ringtones or mp3s that have worn out their welcome on your BlackBerry.

From your Desktop Manager use Application Loader to see what languages are loaded on your BlackBerry. You can remove any you don’t need. Also consider removing any other the option applications that come your BlackBerry that you may not use, such as Password Keeper or BrickBreaker. If you don’t use it, free up the space.

Try any or all of these as they fit for you. These steps helped me stop my vanishing text messages

    Google gets a brand man

In google on September 19, 2007 at 8:03 am

    Andy Berndt

valleymag reports that Google has hired a brander-in-chief, Ogilvy & Mather’s Andy Berndt.

Berndt will work with agencies on using Google’s new ad products — which now range from text links to banners, video, and radio ads — more creatively. He’ll also, most importantly, work on Google’s own marketing efforts. Only one problem, as I see it: He’ll report to Lawee, whose job now becomes even more pointless with Berndt doing all the work. If only Google followed my Darwinian “Toogle Many Googlers” principle, which would require the axing of some Googlers — say, Lawee — to make room for new hires like Berndt.

BlackBerry 8320 for hard-working office monkeys

    bb83200.jpg

For the millions of hard-working office monkeys who are saddled with BlackBerries whether they want them or not, we present a sneak peek at the BlackBerry 8320. You saw the 8300 earlier this month on video, but this 8320 has something its lesser brother doesn’t: Wi-Fi

We’re almost there people! Now if I can only get my hands on the svelte looking chrome and black BlackBerry 8300 model, my life’s mission will be completed. Well, at least for a few hours. Although it’s the same case with minor color changes, the BlackBerry 8320 has one thing the 8300 doesn’t. That’s WiFi. Still no GPS but, let’s hope the 8xxx (Papa Bear) will join his family soon at the BGR Headquarters. Check out some BlackBerry 8320 flicks in the gallery!

On second note: While looking over the device it seems as if it has the standard 2.5mm headset jack, and NOT the 3.5mm headset jack found on the 8300. RIM is really just trying to confuse the hell outta us aren’t they?

On Google’s content network, 10 to 15% of clicks are fraudulent

    In Google's on September 18, 2007 at 9:11 am

According to Forbes click-fraud auditors who argue that there’s a discrepancy in Google’s content network where 10 to 15% of clicks are fraudulent: They say you throw away no more than 10% of clicks, while they estimate click fraud rates at as much as 25%. This is where Google’s $13 billion in revenue comes from clicks on ads.

That’s just one particular set of numbers. The auditing firm, Fair Isaac, for example, estimated in May that on Google’s content network, 10 to 15% of clicks are fraudulent. On ads placed next to search results, they said that there was a negligible rate of click fraud, less than 1%. That implies an overall click-fraud rate of around five to 7%. The number of clicks that we proactively throw out is less than 10%. So then the question is really: How much are advertisers getting for free thanks to our detection methods?

Most auditors have realized this is very difficult to do from the point of view of a third party and have changed their business model to focus on other kinds of analytics. Click Forensics is one company that has continued to publish numbers, but I don’t hear much about them anymore. You need a lot of data to do any sort of statistical analysis, and auditors don’t have nearly as much as we do.

Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt dismissed click fraud as “immaterial.” Even after paying a $90 million settlement, Google has maintained its “everything-is-just-fine” answer to click-fraud worrywarts

**If you get certificate error when attempting to install the program on your S60 3rd Edition smartphone, it means that you haven’t enabled installation of unsigned SIS files. In Technology on September 18, 2007 at 7:51 am

The New York Times will stop charging for access to parts of its Web site, effective at midnight Tuesday night.

The move comes two years to the day after The Times began the subscription program, TimesSelect, which has charged $49.95 a year, or $7.95 a month, for online access to the work of its columnists and to the newspaper’s archives. TimesSelect has been free to print subscribers to The Times and to some students and educators.

In addition to opening the entire site to all readers, The Times will also make available its archives from 1987 to the present without charge, as well as those from 1851 to 1922, which are in the public domain. There will be charges for some material from the period 1923 to 1986, and some will be free.

Google finally rounds out their web-based office suite with the addition of a Presentations to Google Docs. Create a whole new slideshow in Presentations or upload an existing PowerPoint file to get started. Kick your web-based presentation into slideshow view mode and invite others to see it real-time as you move through slides—with chat built right into the sidebar. Make the slideshow public or invite specific collaborators to edit and/or view. Check out my test Life Hacks 101 presentation, an existing .PPT file imported into Google Docs, which I used at a talk this summer. While I wouldn’t use a browser-based slideshow to give a real-time, in-person presentation, for collaborating on a set of slides remotely, this looks ace. Of course, web-based presentation-makers aren’t new; Zoho Show and Preezo have been around for some time now.

O2 To Offer a 40% Revenue Share For IPhone

In iphone on September 18, 2007 at 5:33 am

O2 is actually going to give Apple a FORTY percent of all revenues made off the iPhone. This will be on top of any margin O2 has agreed with Apple on the retail price of the device, which will reportedly also need to be shared with Carphone Warehouse—these details will presumably be made more clear at Apple’s press conference in London tomorrow, which everyone expects to be related to the iPhone.According to a story in the Guardian, Apple has played all mobile operators off each other and has specifically sought national deals as a way of increasing its bargaining position [no mention of the FT Deutschland rumors that T-Mobile might actually be offering it in more than one country]:

“Orange and T-Mobile are understood to have signed contracts [in France and Germany respectively] and at least one had Apple employees helping to implement the device on their networks. But at the 11th hour O2 snatched the UK deal with an offer that gave such a high proportion of revenues to Apple that none of its competitors could see any way of making any return on the phone, even over three years.

Moconews reports that Around 90 million mobile internet devices and 5 million ultramobile PCs will be shipped over the next five years, according to a study by ABI Research. Ultra Mobile PCs (UMPCs) are defined as devices which run Windows and business applications and are aimed at business users, while Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) target consumers and are more likely to run a Linux operating system. “Because many of these devices would be small and have limited battery power, [ABI vice president Stan] Schatt says, many of them would save power by being based on Linux instead of Windows. The most well-known Linux-based platform is currently being developed by Intel, which debuted its plans to enter the nascent MID market in April,” reports PC World. Schatt also suggests that ultramobile PCs haven’t really done enough to differentiate themselves from laptops, and will therefore struggle…

    AT&T taps NEC America

    In AT&T on September 18, 2007 at 4:14 am

AT&T has picked NEC America to provide it with some legacy optical gear for its new video network. They have worked together before, so the relationship itself isn’t necessarily a surprise, but bringing in legacy gear to support a new service is. Where were the new global vendor giants on this one? Perhaps they were busy trying to integrate themselves.

NEC America is not exactly a mom-and-pop shop, but in the U.S. market, it also doesn’t seem the most likely supplier in a carrier infrastructure deal supporting a new video service, especially with a lot of other global vendor giants embedded in those networks, too. But.

    Analysts tough on Alcatel-Lucent

    In Alcatel-Lucent on September 18, 2007 at 4:10 am

Missed revenue goals, thousands of job cuts and executive departures are making Alcatel-Lucent a very easy target. One analyst has compared the company to no less than Britney Spears, such is the ignominy of the company’s slide.

Yet, there’s not much more for Alca-Lu to do at this point than forge ahead, make more cuts if necessary and try hard–really hard this time–to figure out what carriers will actually spend on network gear in the near future. Some might call the Alcatel-Lucent merger a mistake, but until some giant telco says it would rather deal with mom-and-pop shops than international conglomerates that  can meet their scalability requirements, this is a deal you won’t see undone.

    Why Iphone prices were cut

In apple, iphone on September 13, 2007 at 1:08 pm

Apple has made another surprising and may I say confusing move as it slashes the price of iPhone 8GB model by $200. mobile users can buy this ultra-hyped phone from $599 to $399.

    iphone.jpg

Still, the general impression of the financial market is WEAKNESS, sending the company’s shares down by 5.1%. It may be an early sign that Apple is falling behind its commitment of selling 10 million iPhones at the end of next year to get 1% share of the global market.

This could be because of aggressive pre-emptive strike against iPhone-based smartphones that will be launched by other mobile players. By creating a barrier to entry through price reduction, it can easily spoil the strategies of competitors. Then again, there is something really alarming with the timing of implementation

Google has grown by using other’s content !!

In google on September 12, 2007 at 11:38 am

According to ecnomist  the list of constituencies that hate or fear Google grows by the week. Television networks, book publishers and newspaper owners feel that Google has grown by using their content without paying for it. Telecoms firms such as America’s AT&T and Verizon are miffed that Google prospers, in their eyes, by free-riding on the bandwidth that they provide; and it is about to bid against them in a forthcoming auction for radio spectrum. Many small firms hate Google because they relied on exploiting its search formulas to win prime positions in its rankings, but dropped to the internet’s equivalent of Hades after Google tweaked these algorithms

    Nokia 6555 for AT&T

In Cellphone, Nokia 6555 on September 12, 2007 at 9:14 am

Nokia today announced its new Nokia 6555 for AT&T. It may look like a normal flip phone but the 6555 shows that Nokia is spurning the flip phone craze entirely. Though it’s fatter than most trim handsets (it can’t compete with the Razr’s trend-setting profile), its tall, slender shape gives it a soundly sleek and elegant look. Features are plentiful: there’s Bluetooth, a 1.3-maepixel camera, a music/video player, 3G compatibility, a host of community applications and Push-to-Talk (PTT) support. Call quality was more than satisfactory and the display was brilliant. We missed an FM radio, however, and picture quality was disappointing.

    • Reject calls from blacklist。In this mode, all of the calls from the predefined blacklist will be automatically rejected, whereas the rest of the calls will not have any effect. An end user can make use of “Manage Lists” function to create the needed blacklist. This can be used in the situation when a user does not want to be harassed from some people.
    • Accept call from whitelist. In contrast to the previous one, in this mode, mobile only accept calls from the predefined whitelist. All of the other calls from non-whitelist will be automatically rejected. An end user may use “Manage Lists” function to create the needed whitelist.
    • Personalized call rejection. In this mode,an end user may define personalized call rejections for each of the members in the “Specific List”. A user may select “Reject call” or “Reply by SMS” to reject calls. A user may use “Manage Lists” to create his/her “Specific list”.

    2、SMS protection and management

    • “PCG” can help to manage the SMS messages in the mobile phone to make the needed messages visible or invisible in the “Inbox/Sent” of the Nokia “Messaging” application. In this case, a user can hide the sensitive information even your phone is lost, or the user does not want to share the information with others.
    • An end user may create his/her “Baby list” using “PCG”. Once the “Baby list” has been set up, in the next start-up of “PCG”, it will automatically scan all of the existing short messages. If a message is to from the “Baby list”, then messages will be automatically hidden. In addition, it can also automatically hide the short messages from “Baby list” if it is running. This will eventually protect the user’s privacy since others cannot view the SMS without supplying a correct password. A user can set his/her password in “Active mode”. When an SMS from “Baby list” comes in the mobile phone icon on the top-left corner of the screen will keep blinking until the user has entered the “Manage SMS” / “Call Records” area using “PCG”.

    3、Phone call log management

    • All of the phone call records from “Baby list” will be automatically hidden. A user can ONLY view the phone call record by inputting a correct password.
    • When a call from one of the member in the “Baby list” comes in, if it is not answered, then a small “mobile phone icon” will keep blinking until the user enters either “Manage SMS” or “Call Records” area with a correct password provided.

    4、Phone call recording
Whenever a call has been establish (in whichever user interface), if a user wants to record the caller’s voice (for example, please tell me your phone number or your home address, then I can record it down), the user just simply needs to simultaneously press “ABC” key(on which has a pen icon) and “+” key, “PCG”will automatically invoke the “Recorder” application in S60 to record the telephony voice. As such, t the caller’s voice and the user’s voice will be recorded simultaneously. A user may the functions from the recorder to “Stop”, “Pause” or “Continue” to record the voice. Note:For those S60 phones, which has the “QWERTY” keyboard layout,a user needs to use “CTRL+A” key combination to activate the telephony voice call recording. Currently, Nokia S60 E61 has the keyboard layout.

    5、Automatic call rejection
When this function is used, all of the incoming calls will be automatically rejected. If the caller uses a mobile phone to make the call, then the caller may receive a customized SMS message. This is especially useful when a user does not want to be disturbed; however,he/she still wants the caller to get some information about the callee. A user may choose an SMS template like “I am driving call”or “I am having a meeting now, please do not disturb me”as a reply.

6、Automatic removal of the SMS message from the blacklist
A user may define his/her own “SMS Blacklist”. In this case, all of the SMS from the blacklist will be automatically removed when the SMS message come in. This function is very useful when a user does not want to receive those harass SMS messages or advertisement SMS messages.

    7、Keyboard autolock
A user may define a time interval for “Autolock time interval”。When keyboard is not used within the time, then “Call Manager” will help to lock the keyboard automatically.

    8、Quick key lock function
Except the time when a call is established, no matter whichever user interface a user is currently in, the user may simultaneously press “ABC” key(on which there is a pen)and “+” key to activate the quick key lock function. The benefit of this function is that a user does not to switch to the “Idle screen” in order the lock the keyboard. Another benefit of this function is that it can help us to quickly lock whichever screen.Note:1) For some of the S60 phones, when this quick key lock function is activated, after key lock is deactivated in the active idle screen, a user may not see the left/right soft keys in the screen. If this happens, a user may press any of the numeric keys in the phone to recover this situation, or a user may choose to use the S60 standard way (“left soft key” + “+” key) to activate the key lock function since this ONLY happens in the active idle screen 2) For those S60 phones, which have the “QWERTY” keyboard layout, a user must use “CTRL+A” key combination to activate the telephony voice recording。Currently, Nokia E60 uses the keyboard.

    9、File security
A user may use the left and right soft key to browse the directories in the phone, and the user may choose the files to encrypt or decrypt.

    10、Auto start enable
By default, this application is auto-started.

11、It can hide itself in the task manager and don’t let the others know

One more reason to buy an iPhone

In apple, iphone on September 11, 2007 at 10:38 am

Today movabale have announced Movable Type for the iPhone and iPod Touch, made possible through a plugin developed by Brad Choate that makes use of the design developed by Walt Dickinson for TypePad. The plugin works by installing an alternate template set that is automatically used in place of the primary Movable Type user interface when the application is accessed via an iPhone or iPod Touch. The integration with Movable Type is totally seamless.

iMT (Movable Type for iPhone)Walt has done an amazing job creating a truly thoughtful user experience. He certainly had the option to just boil down the application to a smaller, more browsable version of itself. But he didn’t. Instead Walt designed the ideal user experience for iPhone from scratch. He created custom graphics, layouts and entirely new screens for the application in order to make this plugin feel like a completely native iPhone application.

Iphone reached record 1million sales in 74 days

In apple, iphone on September 11, 2007 at 6:47 am

Acording to Press relase by Apple  Iphone reached record 1million sales in 74 days.

The milestone was reached weeks earlier than expected and sent shares of Apple up $4.94, or 3.8 percent, to $136.71. The stock regained some of the ground it lost after the price cut spooked investors as a sign of weak demand and slimmer margins.

It took just 74 days for the combination cell phone-iPod to hit the 1 million mark, which Apple had said it would achieve by the end of September. By comparison, it took two years for the company to sell 1 million iPods, Apple CEO Steve Jobs noted in a statement.

Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital media revolution with its iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online store, and has entered the mobile phone market this year with its revolutionary iPhone.

Iphone Price cut to, Announces iPod Touch

In apple, iphone on September 7, 2007 at 12:13 pm

Along with its announcements about the latest line of iPods, Apple yesterday also slashed prices on the iPhone. The 8 GB handset will now cost $399, down from $599 on its initial release, only two months ago. Apple also announced plans to phase out the 4 GB model.

Apple has said that anyone who purchased an iPhone within the past 14 days can get a refund on at least the difference in prices.

Many iPhone early adopters were upset with the news of so soon a drop in price. As well as Apple’s release of the new iPod Touch, an iPod with a touch screen just like the phone’s, as well as wireless connections and a Web browser. The new iPod Touch will allow users to download music to the iPod directly, without having to first download music to a computer and sync the device.

In an interview with USA Today, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said, “If anybody is going to cannibalize us, I want it to be us. I don’t want it to be a competitor.”

Apple and Starbucks also announced a deal that will allow people to access the iTunes store at Starbucks locations without paying for Wi-Fi connection fees. The service will debut at more than 600 Starbucks in New York and Seattle starting October 2, and will come to other major cities throughout the year and into 2008.

Terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

Accoring to Appscout EditGrid may be the best web-delivered spreadsheet which includes Google Spreadsheets and Zoho.

Today, its maker, the Hong Kong-based Team and Concepts (TnC), has just launched an iPhone version at IT | Redux’s Office 2.0 Conference in San Francisco. As its name implies the conference is a seedbed for browser-based office apps, and when I went last year there was a great feeling of being in the midst of exciting new happenings in tech land.

Iphone beats all in July sales

In iphone on September 6, 2007 at 5:48 am

Numbers released by iSuppli show that the iPhone outsold all smartphones in the month of July. Further, it outsold all “feature phones” with the exception of the LG Chocolate (which it tied).

All told the iPhone represented 1.8% of handsets sold in the US in July. The numbers breakdown also show that 25% of iPhone buyers switched to AT&T.

Based on these numbers iSuppli estimated that Apple will move 4.5m this year and (somehow) estimates worldwide shipments of 30m by 2011.

In any case, it’s abundantly clear that the iPhone is well on it’s way to being a major success in the most profitable part of the market. Of course, it’s hard to know how well the sales numbers will hold up once the initial rush has passed, but if Apple continues its iPod trend of improving features and lowering prices I suspect we’ll be talking about amazing iPhone numbers for quite some time to come.

Corresponding to the small size of the Shuffle, the compact size makes for an easily portable set up

Aside from the USB port and carabiner clip, what I find most interesting about the unit is its size. It makes the shuffle about four times bigger than it really is, which negates one of the main advantages of the clip-like little player

    iPod nano Gen 3?

Gearlive  just got a couple of images sent to him from an anonymous source who claims that this is the new that we can expect to announce at the Special Event taking place this Wednesday, September 5th. Since we’ve seen so many photoshop mockups floating around the Internet recently, we are not saying these are the real deal by any stretch of the imagination – however, we love how these look, and a guy can dream, can’t he?

I guess we will see how it all pans out on Wednesday. We have another image of the supposed new nano after the break

    Microsoft Buying BlackBerry?

In Microsoft on September 3, 2007 at 11:59 am

With continued rumors of Microsoft possibly buying out Research In Motion, the company that makes BlackBerries, the company’s stock price has reached an all-time high of $85.

The talks between Microsoft and RIM may be heating up, and most are naming the success of the iPhone and the growing potential of smart phones as causes for Microsoft’s rumored anxiety towards a buyout. A combined effort of Microsoft and BlackBerry technology could provide quite an offering for a hand held, and improved security measures is a noted reason for Microsoft’s interest

    Gpay VS Paypal

In Paypal on September 3, 2007 at 11:54 am

Amid ongoing problems with Paypal’s subscription service, a Google patent has come to light related to mobile payments. The so-called “GPay” patent doesn’t propose a direct Paypal competitor, however: instead, it covers a text message-based payments system. The patent was filed on February 28, 2006 and published on August 30, 2007. Google already holds a patent for a cross-platform micropayments system.

Google’s Eric Schmidt said back in March 2006 that GPay is “not made to compete with PayPal or to replace existing peer to peer payment systems but that it’s meant to be a new solution to a new problem.” However, that occurred right as Paypal launched its own mobile payments service, and it’s possible that Schmidt refers to the entire Google payments system (including Google Checkout) as GPay, not just this latest patent application.

    Regardless, the patent covers:

A computer-implemented method of effectuating an electronic on-line payment includes receiving at a computer server system a text message from a payor containing a payment request representing a payment amount sent by a payor device operating independently of the computer server system, determining a payment amount associated with the text message and debiting a payor account for an amount corresponding to the amount of the payment request, and crediting an account of a payee that is independent of the computer server system.

I think it’s generous to say this isn’t a Paypal competitor, since Paypal is clearly keen to dominate mobile payments. We’ll wait and see what product, if any, materializes from the patent

Blog Readers Spend More Time and Money Online

In Entertainment, ideas, internet on September 3, 2007 at 11:34 am

According to clickZ The blogosphere is big and its readers spend more time and money online than Web users who don’t read them.

Fifty million Americans, or 30 percent of all American Internet users, visited a blog in the first quarter of 2005, according to a new report from Comscore, and sponsored in part by SixApart and Gawker Media. Traffic increased by 45 percent from the first quarter of 2004.

The average blog reader viewed 77 percent more pages than the average Internet user who doesn’t read blogs (16,000 versus 9,000 for the quarter), the report found. Blog readers average 23 hours online per week, compared with the overall Web user’s average of 13 hours.

Blog readers are 11 percent more likely than the average Internet user to have incomes of or greater than $75,000. Similarly, blog readers are 11 percent more likely to visit the Web over broadband either at home or the office.

Blog readers tend to make more online purchases. In the first quarter of 2005, less than 40 percent of the total Internet population made online purchases. By contrast, 51 percent of blog readers shopped online. Blog readers also spent six percent more than the average Internet user.

“Blog readers are an attractive audience to advertisers: they are more likely young, wealthy, on broadband, and spend significantly online,” said Rick Bruner, co-author of the report. Bruner has since joined DoubleClick as research director.

Nearly 40 million blog readers visited blogs hosted by BlogSpot, LiveJournal, TypePad, Xanga, AOL Journals, Blogs.com and MSN Spaces. As blog readership has grown overall, so has the traffic on the hosted blogs. Six of the major host report growth of greater than 100 percent on a year-over-year basis. Blogs.com had the highest growth rate at 241 percent, followed closely by TypePad with 240 percent growth. Overall, BlogSpot holds the top spot in terms of the greatest number of unique visitors, at 19 million, up from 7.7 million a year ago.

Bruner told ClickZ Stats the scale of consumer-generated content was among the notable findings in the report. “Blog hosting site Blogspot, owned by Google and affiliated with Blogger.com, with more than one million blogs hosted, gets more traffic than NYTimes.com, USAToday.com or WashingtonPost.com,” Bruner stated.

Among the 30 million users who also visited a non-hosted or stand-alone blog, news and political blogs held the largest audience share at 43 percent. A “Hipster” category was a distant second at 17 percent. Additional categories include tech (15 percent), women (8 percent), media (8 percent), personal (6 percent) and business (3 percent).

    YouTube Says It’s Sorry,Gets Unblocked

In YouTube on September 3, 2007 at 6:33 am

Thai government gained itself some publicity by blocking YouTube, after it discovered a video on the site making fun of the country’s king. Google apparently decided that censoring videos deemed offensive by the Thais was acceptable on its sliding scale of evil, and now that the “program” to block the videos is apparently complete, Thais can once again access YouTube. No word, though, on whether the Thai government still plans to sue YouTube for running the video. Perhaps since the YouTube blocking technology works to the government’s satisfaction, Google would be willing to cooperate with the Thais to help them with their other attempts to censor the internet. After all, if blocking some YouTube videos at the government’s request doesn’t trip the evil scale, it’s hard to see why any other type of censorship would
